Since 2017, fairy tales in the style of kamishibai theatre have provided a pleasant transition from summer holidays to the new school year.
By moving between different venues, we explore Ljubljana from various perspectives. In 2017, we celebrated Plečnik and rose above the city. In 2018, we approached the water and wandered with fairy tales along and under the bridges. In 2019, we relocated outside Ljubljana’s city walls. In 2020, we discovered Ljubljana’s courtyards and atriums; in 2021, we gathered around well-known and lesser-known fountains; in 2022, we stood before mighty city portals; two years ago, we visited children’s playgrounds, and last year we searched for the most beautiful trees adorning Ljubljana.

This year, we are seeking shelter under the bell towers of Ljubljana.
The Kamishibai Festival Under the Bell Tower offers a unique experience, intertwining stories with the historical and architectural significance of the locations, creating site-specific performances tailored to the space.
The bell tower is not merely a backdrop—it becomes an active part of the storytelling. With its powerful presence, resonant acoustics, and symbolism, it adds depth to each performance. The performers will adapt their stories to the location, incorporating local legends or historical events connected to the bell tower, anchoring each performance in the identity of the place. The rhythmic ringing of the bells becomes part of the narrative, marking transitions in the story or emphasizing dramatic moments.

In case of rain, events will take place in the Hall of the House of Children and Art.
Any possible change will be announced on our website at least one hour before the event.
