The dance-puppet performance LED – Mechatronic Sculptures is the third performance in a series of performances in which we explore the applied approaches of new technologies in the performing arts. In LED the main characters are costumes. The play explores the conceptual design of the costume idea – how we perceive the costume, what the costume is per se, where are the boundaries between the actor’s body and the costume…
In terms of content, the play refers to the relationship between a man and a woman, based on European mythology – from the Greek Gaius, who gave birth to Uranus, the love affair between Mórrígan and Cúchulainn from the Celtic Ulster cycle, to the Nordic poem Grógaldr from the Icelandic epic Edda. The loose common theme establishes a narrative that reveals the essential elements of human perception of relationships through the play. The actors, initially very undefined, create a unique intimate space through which many can identify.
Myths, however, are merely the basis for exploring the relationship between the actor and their costume. The costume in the performance is no longer perceived only as a spectacle premise in the sense of Aristotle’s poetics, the play redefines the costume as an essential catalyst of events, stories, performances and at the same time as a theatrical element blurring boundaries between actor, props, scenography. The costume no longer dresses the actor, but is an essential part of him and even takes on the role of the actor.
The show is suitable for adults and young people from the age of 15 and lasts 30 minutes.
